HELLO FROM FR PAUL BRUXBY
My Dear Friends
I am looking forward to taking up my duties as your new Parish Priest and would like to tell you about myself.
I was born in the diocese in Romford and lived in Hornchurch. I went to school at St Mary's RC Primary, Hornchurch and then to Bishop Ward's (now All Saints), Dagenham. I studied law for a while and then worked for the NatWest Bank and AA Insurance Services. In 1976 I applied for the priesthood and was sent to St John's Seminary, Wonersh, Guildford. I was ordained deacon in September, 1981 and appointed to St Edward's, Romford.
My "claim to fame" is that I was one of the 12 candidates ordained by Pope John Paul II on 31st May 1982 during the Pope's visit to the UK.
I was appointed to St George's, Walthamstow where I spent four years and then the Bishop asked me to study Canon Law which I did in Rome. Subsequently I returned to the UK and after a brief spell in Colchester I was appointed assistant priest at Our Lady Immaculate, Chelmsford for just over 2 years. During this time I began working on the Brentwood Diocesan Marriage Tribunal first as Defender of the Bond and later as a Judge.
I was then appointed parish priest of St Thomas More & St Edward's, Waltham Abbey and, after five years, moved to English Martyrs, Hornchurch where I have been for the last five years.
I look forward to working with all of you at St Augustine's and hope we can build on the fruits of the recent Parish Mission. God bless all of you.
Fr Paul
